Camellia Japonica
Central North Carolina
The Camellia Japonica is the State Flower of Alabama and it blooms from late winter to early spring. It is also the flower adopted by the cities of Slidell, Lousiana; Chongqing in China; and Matsue City which is located in the Shimane Prefecture of Japan. It is an evergreen shrub with flowers up to 5 inches wide. Camellias can range in color from white to pink to red, and a few yellow varieties also exist. This black and white photograph features both a full bloom and a pair of buds.

"Camellia Japonica" was one of approximately 25 images that were exhibited as part of a group show by the Carolinas' Nature Photographers Association (CNPA). The non-juried show was exhibited at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh, North Carolina, in their Nature Art Gallery, from July 4 - July 27, 2008. |
