Q. Do you have a blog?

A. I sure do! Please visit my blog, Gaal Creative, at http://gaalcreative.blogspot.com. I also have an Etsy store at http://gaalcreative.etsy.com.

Q. Can I get a print in a different size?

A. I have worked very hard to bring you the very best deals possible. I have tested several methods of printing the photos, having them framed and matted, and determined that making large prints is expensive and that the matting and framing can add a significant amount to the price!

I simply can't offer you a better deal on a "large framed print" (10" x 14" matted and framed to 13" x 19") or a "small framed print" (6" x 14" matted and framed to 11" x 19") than what I already offer. The prices I charge for a matted print on acid-free paper with archival inks in a gallery-quality metal frame with plexiglass cover and complete backing are extremely competitive! Most photographers would charge more at an art fair or in a gallery setting.

That being said, you can also order an 8" x 10" unframed print of your choice from my Etsy store. Or, many of my customers buy a 5" x 7" greeting card, and then frame the greeting card as a print. I can't offer you a 5"x7" print for less!

Q. Why are all your photographic prints and gifts “digitally signed”?

A. I sign all of my photographic prints and gifts because I consider myself an artist and artists traditionally sign their work. Also, there are proposed changes to copyright legislation that would allow others to use so-called “orphan works” on commercial products, and I want to preserve my copyright and intellectual property interests in my photography. Signing my work makes sure that it does not get “orphaned”.

Q. Where can I go to see bigger versions of your photographic images?

A. The photographs in my Image Gallery are the largest ones that I have available on the Web. To view larger versions please contact me to arrange an appointment to view my prints in person.

Q. Why does the image look different on the different photographic prints and gifts?

A. Each photographic print or gift is a different size and the ratio between the long and short sides varies. I personally test each image on each print or gift and decide how I think that image would look best on each print or gift product. I also test print every image in several sizes to make sure that the image, color, tones, and sharpness are optimized. I do these things by hand because I believe quality is important.

Q. Why do you partner with Café Press to sell your photographic prints and gifts?

A. Partnering with Café Press allows me to offer products 24/7, with quality customer service, and still have the flexibility to be out in the field doing what I love: taking photographs.

They take care of printing, shipping, and customer service – and I can focus on creating great new images, prints, and gifts. They also can achieve economies-of-scale that I would otherwise not be able to, as a small business, so working with Café Press helps me keep my prices lower for you.

Having an online store also allows me to reach a wider audience than I might otherwise be able to reach. You can see a list of the states and countries where I've made sales in my Artist Statement. To date, my Web site has been visited by people in 20 countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Malaysia, Morocco, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, South Africa, Spain, United Kingdom, and United States. I can't beat this exposure using any other sales method.

I have ordered several of the products myself to test Café Press' quality and reliability and have found them to be a well-run organization. I have been pleased with the products, how the photographs are printed on those products, and with their customer service. One of the things that I like best about partnering with Café Press is that they help me offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee on all photographic prints and gifts.

Q. What is the difference between the “matte” and “glossy” finish on the Café Press greeting cards?

A. For Café Press greeting cards, the “matte” finish is not shiny. It reminds me of the texture of watercolor paper. The “glossy” finish is what I would call a “satin”. It has the same sheen as a normal photo print. It is not a shiny high-gloss.

Q. What kind of camera do you use?

A. I use a variety of cameras, depending on what subjects I want to shoot, what camera features might help me best capture those subjects, where they are located, and how heavy a camera I am willing to tote around on that particular day. I have a Nikon D2X, a Nikon D80, a Nikon N80, and a Canon Powershot A720 IS.

I believe that the camera you use – and the lenses – are not near as important as what you do with them. No matter what camera you have, try to learn about how that camera works, improve your photography, and take the best photos that you can.

Q. What photography school do you recommend?

A. I would highly recommend the New York Institute of Photography’s (NYIP’s) “Complete Course in Professional Photography”. It is around $1,000 - $1,500 and you can go at your own pace. I learned far more from this course than from several fancy art-university classes that cost more per class than the entire NYIP course. It’s a bargain!
